8 or so bees in my bonnet
|||||scritti politti - snow in sun (rrf remelt)||]|
i guess i should declare an interest from the off:
i own and love 4 of 6 of scritti politti's albums.
cupid & psyche(85) complimented my 17 year old testosterone fuelled dramas very sweetly.
so i am a fan.
rock a boy blue, green gartside, is back.
seven years to make an album?
you have been either very distracted
or a hopeless perfectionist my friend,
or maybe actually probably both i guess.
the sound of this album is even more twinkly and luscious than anomie & bonhomie,
green certainly hasn't lost his astute pair of engineer's ears,
and this crystalline collection contains 4 or 5 lip smacking, tear jerkingly pretty harmonies
and a couple of other deeply groovy moments.
it's only on the 3rd play you start to listen to the lyrics,
which, in the main, are green's usual intellegent androgynous impossible romance kind of thing.
(although these days the guy looks rougher than i do!)
verdict: generally all very life affirming. a bit girly. poptastic. 8/10
