john pilger's latest documentary tells the shameful story of how, in the mid 60's, the britsh government (labour) sold the chagos islands to the US so they could build an airbase, carting the indigenous population off to a life of poverty and debilitating nostalgia in mauritius. recently, the islanders won a ruling in the british high court that the action was illegal and that they should be repatriated. blair's government invoked a little known ancient power that allows them to ignore this ruling.
