philosophy? [Oct. 5th, 2006|02:22 am]
8 or so bees in my bonnet
[music |boards of canada - music has the right to children]

my post, this post, was deleted by a moderater from
the philosophy community. and whilst i am entirely used to being banned,
i must say i was surprised by this piece of censorship.
and even more surprised by the fact that my cutting riposte wasn't banned:

the philosophy of censorship

why are some ideas dangerous and disturbing to the status quo?
why isn't kierkegaard banned for being too depressing?
how come spinoza and his 'mere ideas of reason' are not labeled as so much heretical nonsense?
why isn't descartes dismissed as 'a maths geek with an attitude'?

philosophy (if it is what it says it is) has a duty to engage with with the maverick, if not agree with it.

think about it.

it doesn't make a lot of sense...

Repost the exact thing under another account ;)

Fancy a guest for a few days later this month? I am in desperate need of escape and I think you'd be an easy mind to talk with and explore new ways of thinking with.

Kierkegaard is not that depressing (see his Works of Love and Purity of Heart) and Spinoza is actually consistent, if not reasonable, and makes sense given the natural science research to date

I don't know much about philosophy these days -- I dropped out long ago because it wasn't much about philosophy -- but in real_philosophy (much less high_philosophy) it would be a given that such an entry would be deleted.

It's not censorship. It's relevence to the community, or lack thereof.
