of course most of this 'girls own adventure' stuff will have been pulped long ago. so i was pleased to find this.
as well as the 'jolly hockey sticks' comic book items, it contains articles on how to look after your pony, how to knit a 'happening' sweater, and how to bake the perfect cupcake. word. most 10 year girls today will casually read their mom's marie claire, or 'cosmo tween' or whatever.
easy to take the piss out of for its 50's throwback kitschiness (and kitcheness) but it really is quite heartwarmingly honourable stuff.
And to think your mother read such exciting stuff! Definitely fifties material. I used to get very excited when it was delivered through the letterbox each week & I always had the annual in my stocking. Not this one though:it's too modern! We got married in 1966 so look out for one about 1954. I'd love to see one .
