|THE WHALE THAT WANTED TO FLY

ok here's what i've got so far:
the adventurous collared dove was lost....
far away from home, and getting somewhat tired...
she/he spied an island
phew! that's a lucky break! he/she thought
and, thankfully, she/he landed. she/he began to preen his/her feathers...
boomed a voice so loud it made her flutter
hello?, he/she said hovering, slightly panicked.
PARRRRRDON! said the voice
YOOOOUUU'LLLL HAVVVE TOOOO SPEEEEEAKK UPPPP!
IIII'M A BITTTT DEAAAAFFFF!
the dove realised that he/she hadn't landed on an island at all.
she/he'd landed on some kind of enormous floating animal!
well you'll have to speak a bit lower
or you'll make me deaf too!
ok. whispered the whale (because it was a whale)
what are you doing way out here? you don't sound like a seagull..?
the dove told the whale his/her story about how he/she just loved to fly.
as far and as fast as he/she could so much in fact that he/she'd flown too
far out to sea....
what's flying like? asked the whale
the grateful dove gave such a flourishing account of the joys of flying
that the young whale decided there and then that he/she wanted to learn
how to do it...
can you teach me?
COULD BE TRICKY! shouted the dove
YOU LOOK A BIT HEAVY AND YOU HAVEN'T GOT ANY FEATHERS
BUT WE'LL GIVE IT A GO....
FLAP YOUR FLIPPERS LIKE THIS....
the whale got nowhere fast. but they did have plenty of fun trying
and after a hard days practicing the whale was tired and just floating and singing his/her favourite song when
suddenly a penguin shot by
startling the slumbering whale
'i heard about your flying lessons' said the penguin,
'the seaweed told me....'(seaweed is the grapevine of the sea!)
i really don't think you'll be able to fly in the air like your feathered friend there
but you can fly the sea.
but that's a story for another day...
